SYLHET(Bangladesh), June 12: The speakers at a seminar in Sylhet urged the people to launch a movement to force New Delhi to stop construction of the proposed dam at Tipaimukh in the river Borak, located at the upper reaches of the river Surma and Kushara.

The seminar on" Tipimukh Dam, the serious threat to environment and human life' was held at Saifur Rahman auditorium at Rikabi Bazar in Sylhet city on June 8 in which the speakers said, if India go with the construction of the dam, then northeastern region of the country will turn to a desert and this would be another death trap like Farakka, which destroyed ecological balance of the country.

The Dam to be constructed would destroy the nature. The speakers strongly criticizing the present government of maintaining silence on the issue, they warned that if the government failed to raise its voice against New Delhi, they would opt for a movement to unseat the government.

The seminar was organised by Mukta Manch of Sylhet presided over by Prof. Abdul Matin, convener of the organisation. Prof. Abdur Rab, vice chancellor of Manarat International University presented the keynote paper titled "Tipaimukh Dam of India, the propable effect and environmental disaster". Among others, Former advisor of the caretaker government Brigadier(ret) Dr. MA Malik as the chief guest, former adviser of energy of energy and chairman of Amar Desh publications Mahmudur Rahman, former secretary Asaduzzaman former chairman Tarek Shamsur Rahman, former director of BDR Major General ANM Fazlur Rahman, president of National Press Club Swakat Mahmud, Professor of Dhaka University Mahbubullah, Poet Abdul hye Sikder, Brigadier General Jubayer Siddiqi, Prof. Dr. Kamala Agmed.
